SY Buzzard (BYDV)

✚ The first 6-row hybrid with BYDV tolerance

Variety Positioning

• SY Buzzard is the first BYDV tolerant hybrid from Syngenta with tolerance against the PAV and MAV strains of the disease that are also in the conventional 6-row variety, KWS Feeris. On limited data,
  SY Buzzard offers a small yield gain in the east and north but falls behind KWS Feeris in the west.

• Average specific weight (69.0 kg/hl) and screenings are relatively high, close to those of SY Nephin.

• Suitable for all soil types and it performs well even on marginal land. Its straw characteristics are similar to Belfry.

• The disease resistance package is typical of current hybrids, weak on brown (6) [4], but a bit better than KWS Feeris. Rhynchosporium (6) [6] Net blotch (7) [7] mildew (6) [5] and brown rust.

• Having both six-row and two-row varieties with BYDV tolerance may further support interest in the insecticide-free options included in the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI).
