Variety Positioning
- Retains its position as the leading variety in the English market, suitable for both the brewing malt on buy-back contracts, and as a straight feed variety.
- Fully approved by the MBC for brewing since 2016, it accounts for 41% of the malting-types in England and is widely accepted by end users across the whole of Europe after the early acceptance by the MBC, CBMO and Heineken.
- Consistent high yields across all regions and soil types and relatively straightforward to manage.
- It has displayed consistent yield performance over the years (99% treated, 84% untreated in Agrii trials) with a decent specific weight (67.8 kg/hl in AHDB trials) unlike many varieties that are now available in the market.
- Medium height (73 cm), relatively stiff straw (7), high brackling resistance (7) and medium-early maturity.
- It produces intermediate straw yields.
- High untreated yields reflect the good all round disease resistance, with excellent mildew resistance (8) but average on brown rust (5) and Rhynchosporium (5).
- It is moderately resistant to net blotch in Agrii trials.
