Sassy
KWS Sassy has had full MBC approval for distilling since 2017
and has taken about 16% of the Scottish market.
- Agrii northern trials over the last two years have put yields (97% treated, 87% untreated) a bit below those of Laureate which is consistent with the results from official trials.
- KWS Sassy produces a grain of a high specific weight (69.1 kg/hl) and has the lowest screening losses of any malt distilling variety.
- It is liked by end users for its excellent hot water extract and low grain nitrogen.
- Relatively tall straw (78 cm) with average standing ability (4) and average brackling resistance (5).
- Disease resistance is fairly good with mildew (9), brown rust (5) and one of the best ratings for Rhynchosporium resistance (6).
- Early indications suggest that it is moderately susceptible to net blotch.
- Maturity is similar to Laureate (+1).
