Applied Farm Research for the Field of the Future
As part of our commitment to empowering you with cutting-edge agricultural solutions, we launched our Digital Technology Farms project in the autumn of 2023.
This innovative initiative harnesses the power of multiple connected technologies to revolutionise agronomic decision-making on your fields throughout the growing season.
What are Digital Technology Farms?
The Digital Technology Farm (DTF) trials are bringing the “field of the future” to our agronomists and growers. We believe that data from various digital tools can guide crop management decisions all year round.
With Digital Technology Farms, we have the opportunity to develop, trial and demonstrate technologies at farm scale to determine their true benefits in a commercial setting in comparison with ‘field of today’ practices.
The project will compare standard farm practices with data-driven decisions to see how they can work together to benefit growers in multiple ways.
Project Aims:
The project aims to identify where inclusion of technology within an agronomic strategy is most effective and to quantifying what value different technologies can bring to farmers today.
Our Digital Technology Farms
Revesby Estate, Lincolnshire
Brotherton Farms, Montrose
Throws Farm, Essex
Further DTF sites will be identified and developed, including within speciality and vegetable sectors as part of the wider development plan going forward.
We look forward to sharing our insights at technology specific open days in summer 2024.
Agrii’s Innovations Technology Group
Our Innovations Technology Group (ITG) is a group focused on horizon scanning and implementing new and innovative technologies that are relevant to our teams and their farming customers.
The DTF concept is an integral element to the evaluation of these technologies as they are identified.
Initially the DTFs will be leveraging the use of Skippy Scout, in-situ soil nitrogen sensors and disease prediction models (appsforagri) with other technologies being identified for integration all the time.
As part of the connected ethos RHIZA are playing an integral part to the project through a number of key soil assessments as well as remote sensing.
The Challenge ahead for UK Farming
The agricultural industry faces many pressures including the requirement to justify decisions for agronomic and nutritional inputs on crops. This is especially relevant when considering environmental targets and aspirations for U.K. agriculture to reach net zero by 2040.
With this in mind, we must understand how real-time data can help us to tackle the above challenges as well as providing economic and time saving efficiencies to farming enterprises.
