Ambitious for the Future of Farming
News - 23.02.24
At Agrii, we are ambitious for the future of farming.
Building on our 'Green Horizons' initiative introduced three years ago, we have launched a comprehensive sustainability strategy focused on our operations and the support it provides you, our customers.
The strategy integrates the three key areas of people, planet and profit with ongoing investment in research and innovation to ensure all future agronomy services align with sustainability at their heart.
Sustainability and Environmental Services Manager Amy Watkins outlines the strategy below.
Vision and Mission
"Our vision at Agrii is to be the UK’s foremost technically led agronomy services company providing sustainable and profitable outcomes for our farming customers."
The Strategy
Our sustainability strategy integrates three key areas: people, planet, and profit, emphasising research and innovation to ensure sustainability remains at the core of all agronomy services.
Goals and Objectives
Our strategy aims to address various aspects of sustainability, including food security, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, biodiversity enhancement, water resource replenishment, and minimising waste.
The Role of Agriculture
We believe agriculture has a pivotal role in providing solutions to global challenges, with sustainability at the core of all decision-making processes.
Sustainable Productivity Gains
The primary goal is to maximise productivity while considering environmental impacts, with short and medium-term objectives outlined.
Short-Term Objectives
- Building knowledge of sustainable farming methods
- Identifying top crop options through our unique Variety Sustainability Rating (VSR) system
- Investing in innovation crops and alternative protein sources
- Exploring financial opportunities for reducing GHG emissions
- Fast-tracking development of bio-solutions
Medium-Term Objectives
- Making soil a key part of on-farm decision-making
- Increasing nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) by 20% by 2030
- Reducing GHG emissions across the value chain by 32.5% by 2032
Increasing Operational Efficiency
We aim to enhance operational efficiency by focusing on health and safety, waste reduction, recycling, and comprehensive staff training.
Progress and Milestones
Significant progress has been made, including a carbon footprint reduction at Bishop Burton farm and the elimination of Scope 2 emissions across all operations.
Future Targets
We have set ambitious targets to achieve net zero across all business operations and value chains by 2050, with a focus on reducing Scope 1 emissions.
Our sustainability strategy reflects a commitment to driving positive change within the agriculture sector. Our dedication to sustainability is evident in our goals, our achievements, and our ongoing efforts.
